Between work deadlines, family commitments, and personal goals, it’s easy to feel like you’re running on fumes. But here’s the thing: ignoring the need for balance and self-care isn’t just unsustainable, it holds you back from being the best version of yourself.
A counselor’s toolbox contains much more than just tissues and a listening ear. It’s equipped with skills that empower clients to navigate their inner landscapes, gain insight, and unlock personal growth. Here’s how four of my key skills work together to achieve success:
1. Reframing: Imagine a client saying, “I’m a failure.” A skilled counselor wouldn’t simply validate their feeling. Instead, they might use reframing to offer a different perspective, such as, “What are some situations where you’ve successfully overcome challenges?” This shift encourages the client to consider alternative narratives, fostering resilience and self-compassion.
2. Reading Between the Lines: Words only convey part of the story. Counselors hone their ability to “read” non-verbal cues, tone of voice, and even silences. By noticing emotional shifts, hesitations, or inconsistencies, they can gently probe deeper, exploring underlying feelings and unspoken messages. This helps clients access and express what they may not even realize they’re feeling.
3. Connecting with Core Values: Core values are the guiding principles that define who we are at our core. By asking open-ended questions and exploring life experiences, the counselor helps clients identify what truly matters to them. When clients connect their actions and choices to their core values, they gain a sense of purpose and direction, leading to greater satisfaction and authenticity.
4. Facilitating Self-Insight: Insight is the “aha!” moment of self-discovery. Through active listening, thoughtful reflections, and open-ended questions, the counselor creates a safe space for clients to reflect on their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By gently challenging distorted thoughts and offering different perspectives, the counselor guides clients towards self-awareness and understanding the “why” behind their choices.
The Synergistic Effect:
These skills don’t operate in isolation. They intertwine, creating a powerful synergy that enhances the therapeutic process. For example, reframing a client’s negative self-talk while connecting it to their core values of kindness and compassion can lead to a shift in self-perception, fostering self-acceptance.
Benefits for Clients:
By utilizing these skills, counselors empower clients to:
- Develop healthier perspectives and challenge negative thinking patterns.
- Gain deeper emotional understanding and self-awareness.
- Identify and live aligned with their core values.
- Make choices that contribute to their overall well-being.
- Ultimately, unlock their full potential for growth and personal fulfillment.
Remember: This is just a glimpse into a counselor’s toolkit. Each session is unique, tailored to the individual client’s needs and journey. By expertly applying these skills, counselors create a transformative space where clients can embark on a path of self-discovery and build a more fulfilling life.
Personalized 1:1 Therapy
I’m delighted that you’ve chosen to explore the possibility of embarking on a transformative journey towards healing. At Revive, we believe in the power of authenticity, compassion, and collaboration. Let me share a bit more about myself to help you determine if we’d be a great fit on this path of self-discovery.
Credentials and Education: My educational journey began with a focus on education, but a pivotal psychology course prompted me to switch my major to Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Science. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from The University of Mount Union in 2014. Following this, I pursued a Master’s program in Clinical Counseling, earning my degree from Youngstown State University in 2016 and subsequently obtaining my Professional Clinical Counseling License (LPCC) to practice in Ohio.
Professional Experience: My post-graduate experience has been diverse, encompassing community mental health and private practice. I have had the privilege of working with individuals aged 5 and up, honing my skills and passion for assisting adults (18+) in their journey towards emotional regulation and healing from trauma.
Specializations and Expertise: I specialize in providing support for individuals seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and trauma. With a keen interest in men’s issues, I address the unique challenges men may face in their quest for well-being. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Grief work. I have also completed a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy, adding a creative dimension to the healing process.
Holistic Healing Approach: In my practice, I embrace a holistic approach to healing, combining both bottom-up and top-down strategies. Grounded in somatic and polyvagal theories, I integrate modalities such as meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique, breathwork, and yoga-based movements. This personalized approach aims to empower you to achieve your unique goals.
Reflecting on my life, I’ve always utilized bottom-up approaches to navigate challenges and process emotions. Running, drawing, painting, and writing poetry have been my personal outlets. This personal journey has inspired me to establish Revive Counseling, a space where I am dedicated to teaching, serving, and guiding clients toward their own healing.
At the core of my practice is a commitment to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your challenges and strengths. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and strive to empower clients on their journey toward well-being. For your convenience and accessibility, I offer telehealth services to anyone in Ohio. Whether you’re navigating a busy schedule or prefer the privacy of remote sessions, I am here to provide support tailored to your needs. Embarking on the path to healing is a courageous decision, and I am honored to be a part of your journey. I invite you to reach out to schedule a consultation and take the first step towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Let’s begin this transformative journey together!
Additional Therapy Methods
Our process
We Improve Your Health with Our Full-Range Therapies
Assessment
The initial therapy session is a conversation between you and a therapist to build rapport, understand your concerns and goals, and assess whether it’s a good fit. Think of it as a collaborative roadmap setting, laying the groundwork for your personal journey towards emotional well-being.
Goals
Setting goals in therapy isn’t an individual race, it’s a team effort! While you bring your aspirations and concerns, your therapist acts as a guide, helping refine them into SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals. Together, you’ll navigate what success looks like for you, ensuring realistic targets that build confidence and pave the way for meaningful progress.
of Therapy
Therapy implementation is like planting a seed: the initial session sows the intention, and subsequent appointments nurture it through personalized strategies and exercises. You actively participate in this growth, practicing skills, facing challenges, and making choices aligned with your goals. It’s an ongoing journey, requiring commitment and patience, but ultimately leading to emotional resilience and personal transformation.
“It seems you’ve been making significant strides lately,” your therapist acknowledges with a smile. “Remember when you came in wanting to manage your anxiety? How do you feel about your progress now?“
A sense of pride washes over you. “Honestly, it’s night and day! I finally presented at work without panicking, and even said “no” to an extra project without guilt.“
Together, you review the goals you set, acknowledging the ones achieved and exploring what still feels important. The conversation shifts to discussing a gradual decrease in session frequency, a potential marker of your readiness to graduate from therapy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Online therapy has emerged as a powerful alternative to traditional in-person sessions, and research suggests it can be just as effective for many individuals. Studies show positive outcomes for online therapy in treating a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and even more serious conditions like PTSD. The key advantage lies in its accessibility: it eliminates geographical barriers and offers flexibility regarding scheduling and privacy.
In the best interest of my clients' treatment process, I do not currently accept insurance, however some clients may be able to obtain reimbursement for part of their treatment costs. I am happy to give you more information about this so you can decide what's best for you. Please contact me for more information.
Traumas and emotional problems can cast a long shadow, impacting your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Therapy offers a compassionate hand to break through these shadows. Imagine a safe, confidential space where you can discuss your struggles openly and honestly, free from judgment. This is the foundation therapy provides, allowing you to explore difficult emotions and memories related to trauma in a healthy way.
Beyond simply talking, therapy empowers you with concrete tools and strategies. Your therapist can help you understand how past experiences shape your present, offering techniques like EMDR to process trauma and move forward. Additionally, you'll learn healthy coping mechanisms for managing difficult emotions like anxiety, depression, and anger. This equips you to tackle challenges head-on, fostering resilience and a sense of control over your life. Remember, therapy is a journey, not a destination. With ongoing support and guidance, you can heal, build stronger relationships, and ultimately, overcome the obstacles that stand in your way. So, if you're struggling, know that help is available and you don't have to face these challenges alone.
Unfortunately, there's no "ideal" therapy length or frequency that fits everyone. It depends on various factors like the specific issue, severity, individual progress, and personal goals. Typically, therapy starts weekly and adjusts based on needs. Short-term therapy (10-20 sessions) might address specific issues. Complex challenges or deep-seated issues may require longer-term therapy (months or even years).
Person-Centered, EMDR, Expressive Arts, Grief therapies. I meet you where you are, and what you want out of your personal goals. I think of these modalities like ingredients, and each individual receives their personal entree.
I am an out of network provider (OONP). Doing this allows me to provide quality care and specialties for you. My rates are carefully chosen to maintain certifications, continue education for up to date services of care, reduce burn-out, maintain overhead costs, and access fair living wages.
Typically, each session is a 55-minute duration.
Therapy is an investment. Most importantly, an investment in yourself. Variables that impact duration of services is based on severity of symptoms, goals, and motivation levels.
Revive was created with healing in mind. When we experience trauma we can feel disconnected from ourselves and our world. My hope is to provide guidance, tools, and support in order for you to feel safe and restored.
